Could someone tell me what percentage owner operators pulling hoppers are getting for just tractor and for tractor and trailer

A few years ago we received 82% of gross pulling their trailers. I was responsible for compliance, ifta, fuel card etc. I have no idea if this was fair back then, but it seemed there 18% cut was a little high to me. We lasted about 3 months before we left.

Last company I was with, we paid O/O's 10% with their own trailer and 80% with ours. 10% for a trailer may seem high but we never really made money on the trailers after tires, insurance, repairs, tags ect.

Your exactly right 8% trailer and 10% dispatch is fair, if they do repairs over $50, minus negligence Get a trailer lease agreement in advance, and read it.

With my Authority and Equipment 92%. Their authority my equipment 87%. Their authority and their trailer 78%. This is just my view but get your own trailer fast as you can. You will save money in the long run. I was paying 10% for their trailer. One month my trailer payment was over $2000. I put $5000 down on a 32,000.00 trailer my payments are $580.00 per month. The savings more than pay for any tires/repairs and put more $$$ in my pocket. If companies weren't making money charging you a percentage they wouldn't do it. If you are running their trailer you are making their payment for them.

I agree with Steven on this one, get your own trailer. If you take care of it well, tires and brakes should be your only major upkeep expenses. After a few years you might have to replace the tarp with all the daily use on it, but that can be done for less than $1,000. The other key item, trailers hold their value, unlike trucks.

I have two guys running my authority one with my trailer the other with his own. I dispatch them both. I charge ten and twenty percent and it works for all of us

Yes, this is typical for owner operators signing on with their own authority, tractor, trailer, plates, and responsible for everything else. They are independents that are riding or using the dispatch service of a larger carrier. They have learned that they make more money by having somebody in an office keep them moving on better loads.

Most companies pay between 75% - 85% for owner operators leased on without their own authority. With a variety of charges for insurance, plates, trailer, etc. It is the risk reward concept. The less risk the booking carrier has the more reward they should pay out.

It is funny we have a program for owner operators that ranges from 75% - 90%, it seems that everybody wants the 90% but they don't want the responsiblity or overheads that comes with it. They want us to work for free while taking the risk of them running under our authority.

Please realize that we have dry vans as well as hoppers, so that is why there is a wide range with us. Hoppers pay a higher rate then the dry vans.
