the three pedal autos are better than the 2 pedal. we had one in a freightliner century and it was a nightmare. replaced a ton of wiring harnesses, x/y shifters, and trans control computers. they start to wear and go haywire. my advice is steer clear of them unless you cant shift. just my .02

I would be a little concerned at that mileage with an ISX that has had no work done. They are not cheap to rebuild, and have been known to exhibit cylinder head cracking and have camshaft issues up around that mileage. I have seen both first hand, I owned a 2005 with an ISX. That is my experience not just an opinion, I am sure you will get other opinions / experiences, probably good and bad. I would at least pull the valve cover and have the valve train inspected.

I dont know much about automatics but have had quite a few isx's. My biggest problem with them has been turbo issues after 500k. I have 2 with twin turbos and had to have them replaced more times then I can count. I finally went over to a garret settup instead of oem and have had good luck with those. The stock ones seem to eat up impellors and have waste gate issues. If it hasn't been in the shop i would find a reputable mechanic to look it over with a fine tooth comb. Its better to give a guy a hundred bucks and be safe then to spend thousands on somebody elses problems. Also check the fuel filters, cummins tend to be very picky.

I also know nothing about Automatics. I have a 2005 KW that had a ISX. I have the truck still, but no the ISX. Biggest money pit ever. The truck is now CAT powered. Will Never buy another Cummins, I have been thinking about trying a detroit. Hard to find in a W900 though.

I have one in a 2011 389 Pete and have had all kinds of problems. It was overhauled at 344,000 because it was using 8 gal of oil in 15,000 miles. They said that cummins have a problem with the Pistons that end up getting carbon packed witch results in piss poor power, regining every hour or sooner,we also have 2 T800's and they were over hauled at 150,000 for the same thing. I know the dealership where I go the mechanic has done over 25 trucks this past year.My suggestion if you buy one it better have an extened warranty or go ahead and do the delete. Every body that I talk to about my truck say that it will carbon pack agin. Good luck I hope this helps!!

That delete is about 15000.00 ? I have a 2014 579 with only 78000 so far the only bug it has is regening and it goes to cummins next tuesday to get a new turbo and a catalast they are hoping that will take care of that issue ..I really like the truck it has the ISX 525 hp 13 speed so far it gets 6.1 mpg pulling a tanker and hopper

I am sure you know you can get W900s in a glider with 60 Series Detroits. Fitzgeralds offers them. Have a great New Year.

I have 2005 Intl 9400i with an ISX which I bought new. It now has 1,340,000 miles on it and the neither the head or pan have ever been off this engine. It uses nearly no oil yet. Oil analysis every oil change (12,000 miles). That is plenty early for some people. Too long of service intervals has caused some of the issues with the ISX (cams etc.). My EGR has been unhooked for 4-5 years. EGR issues were the biggest maintenance cost on this truck.

This ISX and my Cummins shop have treated me well over the years. Some say I'm lucky, maybe, but I've taken good care of this truck and plan the rebuild it and run it another million. It's the right truck for the job.

Be careful of fleet maintained trucks. They are looking for "low cost of ownership". Probably smart business on their part. But the second owner could be hit with the repair bill for the minimal maintenance of the first. Might be OK if you buy it right.

As far as the auto shift, I have an o/o with a new Volvo with the "I shift" Running through towns with stop lights I can't shift fast enough and I have 100 more hp than he does. If I were buying new I would have an auto shift. I have heard some of the older ones had some issues and are expensive to work on.

Has anyone heard that the EPA is going to crack down on glider kits and make them meet the new emission standards?

I've heard that about the EPA making the gliders meet there standards give it time as the government will change the rules as they always do and when they do all the glider kit builders will b out of business that's a shame

Have 07 ISX in shop now for inframe overhaul. 770000 miles. Cracked head was pushing air into cooling system. Getting reman head and usual stuff. No new injectors or dampner. No turbo, Estimate sitting at $16,250 P & L with no extra warranty. Could be more if they find anything else bad and if anything needs machining. Feel free to contact me if you want the end result in a week or two. [email protected]

Best thing to do with an ISX Cummins is drop it in the ocean and forget where you dropped it

I got talked into an ISX in a 2005 KW. it was a disaster. After 3 years I gave up and replaced it with a 3406 E CAT. Best thing I could have done. I am partial to Cat power. The ruck now does well and EVERYTHING works factory. Ray at Arizona Diesel Solutions built a wiring harness so that everything just plugs in and functions correctly. Let us know if we can help.
