What part of BULKLOADS to you not comprehend? The owners of this website have started a flatbed website that would reach your target audience much better than you posting on BULKLOADS.

What is the deal with TQL idiots on this site all of a sudden? You guys that deperate? While I have had some words with some brokers on this forum that I stand behind, I infinitely respect Everyone of the brokers and shippers working on their own. Even you Jim, just a joke.... Lighten up. What part of this Industry doesn't need the Mega Fleet Van people does TQL, Uti, etc not understand. I tried to haul a load for you guys once, what a joke, I should have had my ass kicked, of yeah the driver tried after sitting in a hay field for 24 hours waiting for a load that wasn't there. Oh by the way for the TQL guys that is "HAY" as in a feed product, not "HEY" as in whats up dude? I just love brokers that have never seen or understand anything about what they are trying to put in a truck. I'll stick with people like the Taylors, Tommy Wilhelm, J.D.Heiskell, Reliant, On and On. If you guys had a clue you'd be dangerous. Please send me a note when the Bulk Freight industry embraces your kind.

I haul bulk grain and potatoes in a reefer so maybe the guy is sincere? I don't know what he's up to, maybe he's a newbie, maybe he's used to loading bulk in reefers, so I give him the benefit of the doubt.

This is a little off the subject but i was wondering if you could ever haul van type freight, like on pallets in walking floor trailers like you own or if a forklift would wreck the floor or if a person could get by just using a pallet jack, or is either option just a big no no. Also as for the van broker or any other agent wanting to advertise their service, I say BRING IT ON! EVERY TRUCK I HAVE OWNED WAS PRETTY MUCH ABLE TO LATCH UP TO ANY KIND OF TRAILER OUT THERE AND I WOULD HAUL JUST ABOUT ANYTHING IF THE MONEY WAS RIGHT. Although at the current time I am not looking for work.

I pull flatbed and get my loads mostly from the Truckers Edge Load Board. However, I will not even call on a load if it's a TQL broker! Too many screwups, lies, bad rates and just bad busines practices. Stick with Landstar, Mercer, ATS and a hole host of other good hounest brokers on the board.

Mr.Stier,
I run Walking Floors. Yes you can haul pallet loads on a floor. My trailers were purchased new. I did not buy a forklift rated floor. The manufacturer says don't put a forklift on it and we don't I however see people do it. One of my competitors run forklifts in regularly and it, over time, damaged the floor, but they can afoord to trade often. We have learned to walk the loads in and out. so we regularly do pallet loads without risking the integrity of the floor. It took us awhile to learn some tricks to make walking pallets easier but it can be done. Of course there are shippers that won't load from the ground. Typically if I go somewhere where they have never loaded a floor from the ground when I leave they are happy to see us come back. They can load me as fast as a flatbed.

Chris, I have had a few customers that liked hauling pallets of bagged product in Walking Floors, reasn being is you can walk the pallets back on the trailer, this is for those who don't have loading docks and typically take Flat bed loads with tarps, you can ususlly get 20-22 pallets per load as well.

I just found out that the bulkloads forum and the flatload forms are one in the same. Anything posted on bulkload fourms will also post in the flatload forums and vice versa. Not sure I like that idea, but explains why we have been seeing the increase in flatbed stuff on bulkloads.

grains, pulses, mostly durum, corn, malting barley, flax, lentils, canary seed, etc. i ship mostly anything of bulk farmer to elevator, rail or container. i ship bulk fert. into producer and retail. do a lot of international back and forth, try to build rounders. i also do hay loads, large round and squares. i also do seed and and round up during those seasons but that is van and flat deck work.Experience wise, i have moved many oil field services loads from pipe to o/d equipment. Not much call up here for those commodities except maybe the tallow to Maple Leaf. If you are Canada friendly there is lots to do, but unfortunately i am not allowed to inter state in America even with my own customers.

I've hauled freight on pallets in my dump trailer before. You gotta be careful doing that because you wanna insure one of two things: if its a ton rate, make sure the load on 16 pallets carries enough weight for make it worth doing or secondly, get a flat rate. Also have a fork lift package on your dump.

Jerry, I believe that I slam more on shippers vs brokers. The brokers often times are limited by what the shippers tell them they are willing to pay.

Example:

A: Shipper tell broker that they want to pay $1.80 per mile, broker takes 20% cut leaving $1.44 per mile to the truck.

B: This is how is should be Truck wants $2.39 broker marks up rate by 20% $2.86 to the shipper.

Shipper should be happy they could not do it themselves any cheaper, broker did their job, and the truck got what they wanted. WIN-WIN-WIN

you could plug any numbers you want in the situations, but either way B is always the best choice.

I never said I hated brokers, we work with brokers every day as well as shippers. My postings have not just been for the trucker but for the broker as well so they could see what they should be bidding the freight at. It is frustrating from both sides when one is pissed at the other and neither know the reason why. Now that the truth is out their for all to see, hopefully some will take it and use it for the good of all concerned.

I believe that it may possibly be too late, no grain reserves left, markets collapsing worldwide, looks like a bad harvest coming up, Wal-Mart is even struggling to make a profit right now. Electronic Logs, Speed Limiters, higher insurance, and whatever else the government can through our way. Pretty bad stuff, hold on and be prudent during these times, many of us will be gone within the next two years.

Good luck to all, I tried

I was just picking at you guys Alfred. I've used brokers for years and yes they are a very necessary ingredient.

The problem I have with brokers is the bottom feeders like the Seattle gang and the Ohio cut throat.

We used to get $3.25 +FSC going outbound in this area but these days the cut throats find "backhaul" carriers to run for $2 to $2.25.

I'm bull headed. I'll bounce a truck home before I'll load the cut rate crap.

I wasn't taking it in a bad light. I was just letting the rest know that I am finished with talking about the issue, it seems like everybody want to gripe but not do anything about it, so why even try. I will go back to doing what I was doing before, build up my own fleet, run my numbers my way. Bounce when we need to, leave the cheap stuff behind for somebody else. Charge twice the rate to go to bad freight areas to take care of the round trip. 5 times the rate for California, 10 times the rate for NY and above, 4 times the rate to go to Fl and so on, my trucks only need to go places that consistently pay good in and out. We have to charge at least $4 + to go to Texas because they belive that it is a backhaul back to Missouri. Here you go I would rather backhaul air then the cheap freight, it cost less to haul air vs. hauling something for somebody that barely covers the fuel. I guess many out there don't believe their time is worth anything,

I wonder how many Americans would continue to work or run a business is they were expected to work for free 50% of the time. Maybe that is why we have so many sorry individuals sitting around at home not working. It is ok for me, I cashed out of the stock market back in January, and can afford to sit around on my own dime, until the market picks back up.

I made quite a bit of change with some of these grain companies by buying and selling their stocks, so I guess I should be happy as an individual that everybody hauled the grains dirt cheap this past year, but I am not. All parties should be able to make money together and still be profitable. I told my men that we were just going to be more and more picky on the loads. I feel for the truckers that are going to be going out of business, but alas that seems to be the cycle, I also feel for the brokers that are scrambling around and trying to sell that garbage freight, that has to suck as well. I feel for the shipper that the next time the market starts to uptick there will be an even greater shortage of trucks than there is now. Hiring 18 yr olds is not going to solve the problem, the rest of us that survive will have our hammers out and be ready to pound back to make up for the stupididty and greed that has occurred. There is no loyalty amongst hardly any in our nation. Look around you and you will see the same as me, or maybe you saw it long before I did.

I've done okay over the past 4-5 years considering what we've had to work with. Luckily the only bank note we have is for a couple of specialty trailers I bought new this year for a good good customer. He hasnt moved a load in 2 months due to the oil patch shutting down but if worse comes to worse we can leave them parked til oil goes back up.

My sons are getting a good lesson on not putting all the eggs in one basket. The economy is giving them life lessons I was unable to get across to them.

You're doing good Alfred keep up the good work.
