Need some help from those with knowledge. We're a small four truck company that has to have trucks for moving our own fertilizer (we're a fertilizer company first trucking company second) but we had an old faithful blow up on us last week. Had 3 pre emmissions models, and a 2013 pete. The reason I'm asking is i've had little success with the Pete, over $17,000 in shop fees related to emission problems. So finally getting to my question with a budget of 60-90k to replace a truck would you go with a truck 12-14 model, or a pre emission model? That has had a recent rebuild, or buy cheap knowing to a rebuild down the road. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I have recently gone through the same mental debate. I have zero customers with trucks 2008 and newer that are happy with downtime or expenses. I'm getting another pre emission truck. The others are to risky

Think about building or buying a glider with a pre-emission engine.

We've been custom tuning for years.ie:cummins, caterpillar, detroit, mercedes, paccar and now international and soon tunings for volvo \ mack engines.
The reality in the future is the governments will be mandating oems to adhere to all epa emission laws. and any new trucks coming will always have emission systems. Whats this mean to you...well, you either find a older engine and put it in a glider, which incidently ive heard rumours their going to ban that practice, or you learn to live with the emission systems ....and find you cant make a living.
OR you can call or email us. We can custom tune your engines for less downtime because of clogging engines \ dpf's etc, we'll get you more power to move your loads up the hill at the same speed you entered it, and guarantee you at least 1mpgs better than your getting now.
just saying, its your choice gentlemen. we're bending the rules, but ive been around truckers and truck shops over 44 years and i know how hard it is to make a living in this industry.cheers ... call toll free 1-855-326-8863"
Sir to custom tune an engine would be awesome but when I get hung somewhere because you took off my emission does that mean you will at your expense come back out and make it the way the government wants or am I on the hook for what you did for me

I would look into leasing a truck from Penske or Ryder. When the truck breaks down, they will get you another one. Let them deal with all the problems, you will know your costs and instead can focus on your business. Also get more than one truck when needed and return one if business slows down. Just my .02.

im pretty sure they already passed a law that if you glider a truck it has to be registered as the year of the Glider kit. im not 100% on this but i know for sure there is legislation on going about it.

Life is just getting REALLY interesting these days.. You make a statement and people tear you to shreds... You don't answer and they think your stuck up... then you've got the people that just FOLLOW all of the rules (pun intended) and NEVER do anything wrong. Personally, quite a few TUNERS reprogram the ECM and leave emissions parts intact.... they just don't work... Including those that offer DPF filter modifications... IF, and I mean IF you decide to go this route then you already know that you could be fined if they find out that you did disable these factory systems... SO WHAT!!! Personally, I'd opt for the ECM tuning. Now until DOT starts plugging your truck in at the weigh station then I'd say don't worry about these other issues... I find that the times that DOT has fined a driver or a company is when they can see that a system has been removed... (i.e EGR valve missing, DPF missing)... So, in closing, we've got to STOP nitpicking every single thing apart that people tell us... You get your ecm programmed and you get pulled over... NO!!!! the guy that flashed your ecm ain't coming!! It's your choice... the DISCLAIMER is on their website... Quite frankly, I'm tired of this emissions crap ANYWAY... Y'all have a nice day..

The only reason j ball hairs is still in bisness is becouse he is in Canada, the Epa has shut most down, not all I guess, on the truckers report website we had a modification forum, well the epa got wind of it and curtain people started getting mystrius phone calls, then the site got real nervous for some reason and deleted all of it, no more they said , they didn't want to get sued. Just ask the self proclaimed Bruce mathisen from Pittsburgh power, he got popped. Since when can the dot fine you for emmisions, I thought that was epa?

CARB can and will plug into your ECM. Everyone better realize that like it or not these modifications are getting caught these guys are pretty educated and the fines if you get caught with a deleted system are crazy big and any delete is going to involve more than an ECM change. If I lived in certain areas I might contemplate doing something, but I sure as hell wouldn't broadcast it on an open forum.

I bought cheap then rebuilt. Should have built a new glider. I would buy older all redone or build a glide while you still can. I have a 96 Peterbilt 379EXHD if interested. Redone front to rear including paint. N -14 crate engine 525hp. New idle free APU in January. To much to list. Spent almost $100,000 in the last 2 years. Asking $69,000. Ph.6414302402I have lots of pictures

Troy to answer your question yes I have heard of instances of people being "caught" for emission alteration. For instance a friend bought a 1980 something 2 axle 359 Pete out of California brought it to Arizona. In order to license the truck he had to purchase a emission (catalytic converter type muffler)approved muffler for $4500. I tried awhile back to buy a muffler from a shop we all know in the east. They had to decline because it wouldn't match the emission standards. Of the truck I was ordering it for. This is when I found out they had been "raided" by EPA so to speak. The amount of paranoia on the phone regarding my request was very evident. This is why a shop owner that broadcasts on a forum about deleting this stuff is just asking for a problem. But this is just my uneducated opinion. Officers in our state are being trained to stop and ticket diesel pickup owners for emission alteration.
