The only piece of input I can offer is it may be a situation where the shipper posts the load here for $100/T and also sends a load list out to brokers as well for $100/T. The broker may not realize the customer is posting the load as well. I've had that situation turn up already and I've appreciated when carriers have told me. I don't post their loads and waste everyone's time.

good rule to go by don't call black pearl/guffy and son or uti they always double brocker loads or go down the list and see who has load posted first

This is the reason most of the rates are being cut! These companies see other's loads, find out what the company is trying to move them for and just repost them. I have found that there are companies that are grabbing up loads to have them and find that the trucks are not flocking to their horseshit rates! I hope they get struck with the loads and have to lose money on the loads to get them hauled! Maybe they will learn to make sure the truck can make a living before they gobble up every load they can get their hands on.

Rates being cut start with the truckers themselves. If the rate does not meet your margins, simple answer here. Just don't take it.

With the price of fuel going up, I imagine there will be even more truckers going out of business because of their lack of discipline and business savy.

Here is what I seem to run into, a lot of failed truckers now become brokers and then try and sell the cheap freight to other truckers.

Throw into the multiple co-brokering situations where two or more brokers are each taking a cut before it gets to the truck.

Shippers still want to move freight at 1980 prices.

Individuals running for $1.50 per mile or less because trucking is not their real business.

Well those days are limited, rates will come up and everybody will still be griping and complaining. You watch it.

Well put. I recently did a little research on a broker I hadn't seen before. They offer freight, trailer leasing, and... factoring. This speaks volumes to me about much of our industry. In some cases smart people with money taking advantage of vulnerable people.

This maybe because the broker has a "non-commited" customer. Which means the customer is putting a call out to 5-10 brokers for bids on one load. Which ever broker finds the truck for the best rate typically takes the load.

I hear that excuse from brokers all the time. Let's all be honest brokers suck as bad at truckers most times getting rates. You know why? They are all promising shippers what they can not really deliver. In effect it is the cheap ass shippers that control the market. Just like the market makers with the grain. Now that the herd has been thinned out it is time for us carriers to take back what is ours.
