Can someone explain what exactly makes a particular washout "certified"? And where do I find one that's, "certified"? The list here on BL does not mention anything about certified or not, thanks.

I think a witch doctor from a turd world country has to come perform a voodoo ceremony, while green peace drops LSD and has a orgy.

A "certified" wash out is one who has filed with the city/state/county or whomever the local governing authority is that the owner certifies they will not knowingly washout any hazardous materials on the same site as tankers, hoppers, ect. Additionally they will keep records of anyone who does wash out on that site (when/where/who) in case contamination is reported so they can trace back and notify people.

The certification part is just a document from a legimate location that provides trailer washouts (with the company's location & phone number so they can be contacted for verification purposes) stating that you got one. As a shipper that's all I've ever known a "certified" to mean, and that's all I've ever needed for a customer location requesting one. Has anyone encountered something different?

I am just curious....what governing body handles the certification.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when Obama was still president, didn’t the government require all truck wash operations to be registered with the EPA and DNR, wich would make them all certified? I seem to remember most of them drying up and blowing away down in Nebraska, when all that was going on.

Yes a trailer washout is different and is a few facilitites who performed those washouts, our facility only provides tanker Food grade washouts, I apologize for all the info putting on here, lol.

Depending of the type of wash facility you want to operate, like or facility in WA Sate is a JPA (Juice Products Association) WSDA and Kosher Wash facility.

JPA have different types of washout that they required to Food Grade Procesors to follow depending on the type of product that needs to be load, they hired a Company to load in one facility and dropp off on they're plant, and depending of what product was haul before and the product that is going to be load is the type of wash that it needs to be preformed:

Type 1: Potable water rinse only, no ATP test, not sanitized, sealed upon request.

Type2: Water Based Products. Pre-rinse, 15 minute detergent wash at 160° and drain, potable water rinse and drain, sanitize, ATP test, temporary seal. Includes hand-wash and sanitize of rear valve assembly, top hatch, and two hoses.

Type 3: Water and Oil Mixtures, Oil-Based Products & Allergens. Pre-rinse, 15 minute degreaser wash at 160° and drain, 15 minute detergent wash at 160° and drain, potable water rinse and drain, sanitize, ATP test, temporary seal.

Type 5: Special cleaning guidelines for certain ingredients. Pre-rinse, 15 minute degreaser wash at 160° and drain, 15 minute detergent wash at 160° and drain, potable water rinse to 208° and drain, sanitize, ATP test, temporary seal.

OU Kosher certification, Every OU certified wash facility is authorized to perform kosher maintenance washes. Upgrade washes can only be performed at those facilities whose certificate clearly specifies they are authorized to do so. is performed at a facility certified that it does not recycle water from trailer to trailer or recirculate fresh water through a heat exchanger within a cycle (in other words, it operates a one-pass system).

Kosher 4/5 : Kosherization / Kosher Upgrade - Orthodox Union. Pre-rinse, 20 minute degreaser/detergent wash at 190° and drain, 20 minute potable water rinse at 200° and drain, sanitize, ATP test, temporary seal. Includes hand-wash and sanitize of rear valve assembly, top hatch, and two hoses.

Kosher upgrade: Includes hand-wash and sanitize of rear valve assembly, top hatch, and two hoses.

also need a WSDA certification to perform washout to milk tankers.

I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE OBAMA THING. I KNOW THAT FOR AWHILE THERE WERE WASHOUTS POPPING UP ALL OVER THE PLACE AND THE EPA WAS SHUTTING THEM DOWN ABOUT AS FAST AS THEY WOULD OPEN.

I remember going to a place that washed out cattle pots down in Freemont back then, so I could get a washout to go load material for a precast plant, and all the bull haulers were telling me that there were only six washout locations left in the entire state of Nebraska because of Obama, but at one time there were dozens.

Thanks to those who have responded thus far. I'd like to contact the particular governing body for an official list of "certified" washout facilites. So who exactly issues the certification?

Maybe this is the same guy who offers the dispatching courses for a few grand and includes a "certificate" which makes the graduate now a "certified dispatcher"!

I've also seen places advertise about Kosher washout. I had one place hot wax this inside of the trailer, that next load slid right out no hang up. I've had ones give a sanitize certificate

The same thing for me is that I didn't know what certified washout meant. However, after reading this thread answers on this thread, I feel like I should have known that. By the way, guys, don't you know what the biggest wash facility is in the northeastern part of the country? I'm willing to open a new business, and I might need to know all these details. I have already got my business license, and I'm almost ready to start. Man, the prices for these licenses aren't normal! If you want to know how much the license costs in a certain state, you can find this info on licensecost.com. Trust me, and you'll be stunned.

I've got a simple solution for a certified tank wash that I'm willing to share with all my BulkLoads brothers and sisters for free. Yes, free but lets keep this a secret.

Step 1: Go to your local office supply store and order a packet of reciepts printed with your wife or kids name. Example: Karen's Truck and trailer Wash"

Step 2: Order a self inking stamp that reads "Certified Trailer Washout"

Step 3: Park the trailer next to your barn, get out the water hose and wash the trailer. Or have your kids do it.

Step 4 : Issue yourself a reciept for the wash and stamp the reciept "Certified Trailer Washout"

Step 5: Keep extra reciepts in your glove box and date them as necessary.

Step 6: Keep all reciepts for tax purposes

As an added bonus, Order an additional stamp that reads: "Livestock Feed HOS Exempt due to Corona Virus" Stamp every bill of lading except fertilizer. They may figure that one out...

You're Welcome, Over and OUT!!!!!

What's sad Barry, is that you probably do a better job than a lot of washout locations. Not to say that there aren't good ones, but I have washed out at more than a handful of locations that tried to leave me with a dirty trailer. I made them clean it, until it met my personal standards; but it made me wonder how many pour souls drove off trusting that the fella did a good enough job to justify $40-$75?

Donovan, I've seen tons of guys get mad at me because there was still product in the trailer. And yes i can do a very good job with a garden hose (one that links constantly) and a spray nozzle. I've found some really really good ones and keep them to myself. One guy sterilizes the trailer before he waxes the inside, this was 2 weeks ago. I washed out yesterday and nothing stuck anywhere still. Water beads up.

I never find a washout that has a clue how to really clean a floor much less a belt. They don't have a clue what to look for and they really don't care.
