Hear me out

Well I’ve grown up on the farm pulling hoppers and end dump. That’s all my father ever did for work. I’ve been under my own authority for 3 years now. Pull LTL reefer 5 days a week straight. But ever since covid it’s really fell off. Dedicated has been thrown out the window. One week on one week off type of deal. I own 100% of my own set up (truck and reefer). Been really wanting to get back to my roots and get under a hopper again and be home a little more often. With not as much over head and what not. Should I buy a new hopper and start over again ? Just want to know if it’s worth it before I make the switch

I have a reefer and Hopper, both are parked right now. I added a hopper thinking what you are, if I'm not going to make any money I may as well be home more. Well I'm home just with 2 trailers instead of 1. Many of the oil field trucks hooked onto Hoppers in my area. Until things get going again all trucking is going to be bad.

Yea man I guess everything has taken a huge hit. I’ve been sitting but I’m in southern Delaware and the hoppers are still moving. But I refuse to move pennies on the dollar. Thanks for taking the time to reply. You know when you own you’re own deal and stuff doesn’t start to go right you look for other leads lol. Never satisfied I guess

Thanks for the reply. But from one driver/owner to the next we know that’s not a possible hahaha. Diesel runs in the veins. We’ve been threw hard times just as much as the next guy. Just have to bare it. It’ll get better. So I hope

Hopper has been slow too, I've taken about as much time off this year as I've worked, and rates are not what they should at all.

I WOULD WORRY ABOUT CUSTOMER BASE FIRST BEFORE EQUIPMENT

I have the customer base that’s not the issue.

I keep my hoopers on the road as much as they want, it seems to work, some work two weeks straight that includes driving weekends for long hauls. Id say it is worth it. There are lots of great rates out there too, depending on what you want.

Hey Austin , We run dumps and hoppers also , living in Pa I truly was never planning to own a hopper but when Perdue built there new meal plant an hour from my shop and I ended up running a steady lane out of that plant and was in the market for another trailer so took a chance on a hopper , but true to Perdue form 4 month's after buying it they took me off that lane ,now there was still work but over the past 2 season's they have really cut the rate's , so my advice would be pulling dump trailer our dump trailer work is still going strong and no game's with rate's , I gave my nephew my whole set up when I went to the hopper but i'm going to be switching back , there's just more options and for the most part anything you can put on a hopper you can do on a dump plus various other things ,but if you are interested in doing hopper I have one for sale also , if you want to pull dump and are looking for steady runs we can help with that also feel free to contact me either way...610 496 7781 Jon
