Who does their own IRP and/or IFTA, or do you have an outside company do it for you such as a bookkeeper or compliance company, etc?

Always do your own. You have to do all the leg work and submit miles to the 3rd party, and they simply enter it into the computer for a fee. All it takes is setting up accounts with your state IFTA and IRP website. Same with the states that charge heavy use tax. Find the website, create account. File and pay.

Definitely do it yourself. After you actually learn how to do it the first time it only takes a few minutes per quarter to file. If you haven't done it before, It seems worse than it actually is.

Do it yourself. I have a regular spread sheet where I enter in every inch my truck rolls and every drop of fuel that goes in. I do my IRP at the end of the year. I could do it online but the website confuses me. Its really not hard to keep up with everything if you keep it organized. I have a simple spreadsheet where I physically type everything in.

I would never pay someone to do something that I can do myself. $85 is robbery for 5 minutes of work.

I just did it yesterday here in Texas. Make sure you take your UCR with you this time. It's a new requirement along with your 2290, insurance, ect. I've never paid a service to do it, ever. To many hands in our cookie jar already.

If you use a Transportation Management Software program for your dispatch load billings and fuel purchases, they usually have a built-in program to complete the quarterly filings. Check with your TMS provider. If you don't have a TMS, get one, it will simplify your record-keeping.

Ryan, what TMS software do you use, if I may ask?

We use Prophesy, it can handle many different aspects of a trucking operation. It communicates into Quickbooks and customer support is also good. Call the 888 number and they will get you going in the right direction.
