Leased drivers

Are you not just basically an employee now ? Are you on W2 or 1099 ? Do you have forced dispatch ? Do they demand that you take all loads given ? Can you only take the amount of loads you want to and then go home when you want ? We had leased on drivers at my last job. They worked when they wanted snd stayed home when they wanted .

In some cases, it’s better to be leased to a carrier especially if they have a direct customer, and are not dependent on brokers, some will try to force dispatch, others will not, a good carrier respects the owner operator and doesn’t have a turnover problem, a good carrier will be able to keep you profitable and happy, but it can be a process to weed out the bad ones, pretty much the same story when working with brokers, in either case you would be a 1099 since you own the truck. In either case you will have a contract, either with the carrier or broker, and you will still have to comply with DOT regulations no matter wich path you choose, but if you have your own authority the DOT can hit you twice with a fine since your both the carrier and the driver, so it’s a double whammy. Most carriers will help cash flow you to get you started, provide a fuel card base plate and insurance, but if your going to run your own authority you better have at least 30 grand sitting around after you buy the truck and obtain insurance to get the ball rolling. When it’s all said and done, you basically bought yourself a job at best, your just trading on boss for another. There is no shortage of people willing to sell you a rope to hang yourself in this business, that’s why it never changes.

I have seen some of your expectations in your other posts, and I don't think they are unreasonable, in fact here is a link to a news story that shows what trucking was like, before the government put control in the hands of the drivers. That is the authority I been driving under for last 4 years as a company 1099 driver. One reason they went out of business. No way to pay me, truck and 10% to him when cement only paid 4k a week. She gave it a good try but all the breakdowns put her out.
