Put a " Offer Rate" on the load

Here is where the change needs to happen.... I run a few reefers/vans and utilize other load boards like DAT to secure freight for these trucks. On the DAT board and others similar, most of the loads available have true offer rates posted on the load. The loads with posted rates are the loads that get the most attention. Which brings me to my point... I get daily calls from hopper merchandisers and brokers asking on rate and what will it take. Calls saying we can't find trucks. It's time, in the hopper industry, we begin to put public offer rates on posted loads on Bulk Loads. Efficiency is key in this industry. I do believe this will bring back some stability to the hopper freight.

I see no evidence of a shortage of trucks, in fact I see too many trucks, guys lining up all day long to haul double brokered freight, broker A gets carrier A to move it for 2.00@ mile, then carrier A turns around gets some boner operator to move it for 1.50@ mile, who can’t wait to run out and buy more trucks, and put a 1099 employee behind the wheel, As they illegally haul overweight down the interstate, on a permit intended for secondary roads. I do agree with you however that it would be nice to see rates posted though.

My guess is the brokers are leaving it sit, in order to get the rate up on that lane, but some trucker will probably come in and derail the plan. On the other hand if customers start posting rates as public information it will become obvious what the problem is, and derail the driver shortage argument. I get those same folks calling me too, but the majority of the time it’s In some other part of the country, that I don’t service. Ever notice how if it goes to voicemail they won’t leave a message? They don’t want it moved that bad, their just fishing for rates.

Seems to me that Facebook has played a huge part in the denigration of this industry; Nearly every trucking group has numerous posts about how "easy" it is to get into trucking with no money down, no experience and how they can actually own fleets! Many of us are calling out daily these independent dispatchers who are acting as "fake brokers", posting that they have loads when in fact they don't "have loads" unless they are licensed brokers or shippers. On top of that, all the scammers (am not saying all are scammers, many are legit) offering training for dispatchers to get rich quick while doing it as a "side hustle", along with their BitCoin, Crypto-Currency, MLM, vitamins, beauty and wellness products, etc. The FMCSA keeps threatening to crack down but all it has been is lip service...

Some of the reason may be that the brokers don't actually have the load. 50% of the pneumatic loads on this app are that way. The broker is hoping to get the work but doesn't have it yet. It waste our time calling and dealing with this. Just like loads that are gone being left on here. It's beyond annoying. This app could simply require load posters to reaffirm that a load is still available at least once a week. This app really isn't for pneumatics anyway. I've had it since March and have found 3 runs total. I do better just calling companies. This is probably my last month paying for this.

As soon as they start posting ALL their empty trucks.

Rob, I agree social media has changed trucking, I would like to hear your opinion on why there is a shortage of school bus drivers though, since they don’t use brokers or dispatch services. All CDL holders essentially follow the same regulations, I.e. drug testing, health cards, etc. I am also curious if you believe government will just continue to sit back and allow us to destroy the supply chain?

Social media is the devil! Not just for trucking, but for every part of life! The informative part of social media is so minute that it is nearly non-existant. I got rid of Facebook well over a year ago and have NEVER been happier! The constant "Poor me" and "you're a racist" or "you're ignorant" was enough to send me off the social media grid!

As far as more money, if you are not making money year round in this industry, you must not be working real hard at it! We make money year round and we plan to keep making money year round!

If you think Facebook is bad, try doing a YouTube search on dispatch service training...It's staggering. I actually watched a "trainer / mentor" (that's what they call themselves, what a joke) walk viewers through finding a load on DAT, and how to get his customer to take it all from his cell phone.
