CAT C-15 ENGINE; GOOD IDEA OR BAD? 2ND TRY!

Aug 05, 2010 at 04:24 PM CST

I am looking to buy an '06 T-600 with a C-15 engine. Don't know much about them since I have had a Detroit and Cummins previously. I'm concerned about the 2 turbos and the fact that Cat is no longer in the trucking industry. I've heard a lot about all the newer emissions engines. How is the fuel mileage.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The c 15 is the best motor on the market, i wont by a truck unless it has c 15 or c 16. my trucks are getting about 6 to 7 on millage

This one has about 400,000 miles. Anything to look for at this point?

C-15 to me rates just behind the 3406B for the best cat engines i have ever seen. C-15 very good, might need a good tune up around that 650000-700000. If taken care of it should last a long time

Have an 07 pre-emisson c-15 at at 475 hp. Reporting 6.8 mpg on IFTA fuel returns. Best motor I've ever had. Oil level at same level on stick when it comes to changing oil. Heard complaints with newer ones with the new emissions goodies. Try and stay away from them; not just cats, the other breeds also. I think they call them re-gen motors or something to that effect.

I have '07 pre emission cat. Started with 475 and bumped it to 550. Running 379 Pete. I can't seem to break the 6mpg mark but get 5.6 to 5.9 every quarter. What kind of truck do you run to get 6.8mpg?
