Cash crops: Michigan farmers test growing market for industrial hemp

All of their talk about industrial hemp and how it's going to be a real game changer for farmers and the environment is what led JoAnn Austin to research the crop for her farm just outside of Richmond and decide to grow it. "What they were saying made sense and why not do, something that's good for the earth and good for people?" said Austin, who, along with her husband, Richard, is among the more than 570 Michigan farmers who are licensed to grow hemp in the first year it is allowed as an agricultural crop.
