Cold, wet weather impacts farmers fall harvest

“There is a certain amount of anxiousness in the farming community now,” says Capron farmer Marshall Newhouse. “It’s time to get the crops out and guys want to work.” A wet spring pushed planting back and an early snow pushed harvest back, creating a crunch time for farmers to finish their fall field work. “Where we traditionally get a lot done in late September and into October, that didn’t happen because of two things,” says Newhouse, “one, the crop wasn’t mature yet to pull out of the field and secondly, we had a lot of rain delays that kept our equipment out.”
