FDOT warns commercial truck drivers to be aware of their load's height

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - The Florida Department of Transportation wants commercial vehicle truck drivers to be more cognizant of the height of their loads in light of a disastrous overpass strike this week. In the same day, two drivers who were hauling loads more than 13.5 feet ran into overpass bridges across Interstate 75. In Sarasota, one of the drivers hauling an excavator on a flatbed did not measure his load and it slammed into a bridge. Hundreds of pounds of concrete rained down on the interstate lanes below. Matthew Borror from North Port was inside one of the vehicles damaged by concrete debris from an overpass truck crash. Borror's windshield was smashed by flying debris, which also tore a hole through his truck.
