Flood waters receding, but roads still closed

ALTON — The Mississippi River on Thursday was continuing to recede from its recent near-record crests in Alton and Grafton, with several roads still closed by flooding.

At noon Thursday, the river was at 37 feeet in Alton, down from its Sunday crest of 39.1 feet. At the same time, the river was at 32.2 feet in Grafton, down from its June 8 crest of 35.12 feet.
