Grain Elevators Not At Capacity, But Farmers Aren't Worried

Grain elevators store and dry a large percentage of corn and soybeans harvested by Hoosier farmers. One of the nation’s largest, Kokomo Grain, has locations throughout Indiana. Last year’s record yields made storing all of the grain difficult, but this year it’s a different story. Farmers are experincing depressed yields due to wet weather this spring. The growing season was shorter, and that's caused yields to decline across the country and throughout Indiana. Mike Silver is the Grain Originations Manager at Kokomo Grain. He says while storage this year is not at a premium, he anticipates space in future years will continue to be hard to come by.
