'Sorry you can’t be your own boss'

Independent truckers in the North State are scared about California’s new state law that reclassifies independent contractors — with exceptions — as employees who are entitled to benefits and other compensation. They believe it will take away their livelihood. One local insurance carrier said he fielded 45 calls in one month from truckers, which prompted him to call the office of the new law’s author, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez.
