MENDOTA - Two months after an announcement by Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) of plans to construct a new milling facility in Mendota, an official groundbreaking ceremony was held last week at the site of the new plant on the east edge of town near Interstate 39. Addressing the gathering of ADM and government officials on Aug. 25, ADM Milling President Mark Kolkhorst said they had spent years searching for the perfect site on which to build and now, standing on that perfect site, he looked forward to returning to the spot in two years for the grand opening of the mill. ADM Milling is one of the world’s largest flour millers with multiple wheat flour mills in the U.S. as well as in Canada, the Caribbean, Central America and the United Kingdom. The Mendota facility will be the largest flour mill owned by ADM and have the ability to grind soft and hard wheat varieties. Also taking part in the groundbreaking ceremony were, left to right, State Rep. Jerry Long, LaSalle County Board Chairman Jerry Hicks, Kolkhorst, State Senator Sue Rezin and Mendota City Clerk Emily McConville.
