Two grain-elevator shutdowns in less than three months represent the first claims in years for an Illinois insurance fund intended to protect farmers with grain stored at failed facilities.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture last week revoked the operating license of Keller Grain Co., which operates in Anna and Jonesboro, in southern Illinois. The revocation came after the November revocation of the operating license for SGI Agri-Marketing LLC in the central Illinois community of Gibson City. In both cases, the department seized grain stored at the elevators for later sale.
