A Mount Vernon man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two counts of grand theft in which he is charged with taking more than $400,000 worth of grain.

Merle Northrup, 46, pleaded not guilty during a circuit court session at the Davison County Public Safety Center in Mitchell. He is charged with selling corn and soybeans belonging to two Mount Vernon-area farmers to Poet Biorefining and CHS Farmers Alliance under his own name for approximately five years.
