A new law that took effect Jan. 1 brings Illinois truck inspections in line with federal standards and reduces the number of required yearly inspections.

The law, HB3172, means trucks operated solely in Illinois will only need one state inspection per year, instead of one every six months, saving money and time for truckers.

Don Schaefer of the Mid-West Truckers Association said the bill makes sense given federal regulations.
