Truck company owner killed while checking semi’s tire in La Vergne

LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was run over and killed while checking the tires on his own semi in La Vergne Monday afternoon.

It happened on Waldron Road near Charter Place, not far from Interstate 24, around 2:30 p.m.

Officials at the scene told News 2 the owner of Bears Trucking Inc., William Hayes III, was driving his SUV down Waldron behind an employee who was driving one of his semis.

After something went wrong, Hayes got out of his SUV to check on the semi’s tires.

According to a report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the employee did not see Hayes, and the semi rolled over him, killing him.

The 58-year-old man was transported to TriStar Stonecrest Medical Center in nearby Smyrna where he later died.

There’s no word on charges at this time. Further details have yet to be released.
