would this qualify as double 3pl,ing. everyone yells about double brokering and from what i am constantly told..."3pls aren't allowed to double broker"

yes it does qualify, pretty brazen actually, i guess they can't explain these loads well enough on the load listings.....so glad i do not have to deal with carriers and 3pl's that do this

it's all fun and games until there is an accident or commodity contamination and then watch them scramble when the insurance claim comes in.....

Can we say Cherry Picking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gonna get Cheap Cheap Cheep Cheep Cheep !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pesty Loser Services is getting like Too Quirky Loco's, can't keep their own customers happy so they are cherry picking from other brokers now. If I was the other broker I would watch out, because they will be telling your customer that they can get cheeeeeeepeeeeerr trucks than you can.

Classic case of co-brokering going on here folks, this is why I recommended to the FMCSA instead of going after the honorable brokers with higher bonds that they should make co-brokering illegal.

Scott,

The FMCSA couldn't do that it'd actually make sense. Why would the gooberment do anything that would make sense? That'd be to easy.

I could make a joke about easy but as I sit here on the couch reading this aloud my wife is giving me the look. I'd better play nice.

I am beginning to understand why it takes so long to get paid when hauling brokered freight. Customer pays broker 1 in 5 days broker one plays broker 2 at day 10 broker 2 pays broker 3 on day 20 and then broker 3 reluctantly cuts a check on day 35...and then tells the carrier he paid the carrier more than the customer paid him and he lost all kinds of money and that's why it took so long to pay.

Yep sounds familiar don't it????

Yep, I hear it all the time. Then I drive by one of those multi-million dollar offices and remember that they are losing money on the load that I am hauling for them.

The small honorable brokers that work out of their home based offices, are the ones that really don't make a lot of profit, they are the ones that are in the sights of the gooberment (sorry for stealing your word, I just liked it). Pretty soon all that will be left when this rate war is over will be the consoladation of the Mega's (which they have been buying each other out for the past two years). Then the regulations will make it so we smaller business owners will end up leasing on with them in a Power Only situation, or a satellite brokerage office with the small broker being controlled by the larger. I know it sounds nuts, but who would have ever thought that shippers would open their own brokerage firms (3PL's) and force their own suppliers to use them.

I don't look like such a wackadoodle anymore do I?

Time is getting short people, you better start working togethter or it will end up being by force. Looks like the force part is just right aroiund the corner.

And this will not be like Obi telling Luke " Use the Force Luke, Use the Force" this will be more like the gooberment saying "Work by force Puke, Work by force"

yeah ain't funny how they always lose money or had to chip in a little extra to make it worth your while , when if you drive by thier office theres always a couple really high dollar vehicles out front or they are out of the office golfing or on vacation ...... hell maybe thats where we went wrong instead of being money making tryckers we should have been money losing brokers.

Normally I'd say you were crazy and a wackadoodle (sorry I liked that one so I stole it) but nope not in this case.

When a person actually sits back and looks at the way our industry is and thinks about it the gooberment wants control. Look at the railroad way back when there were many now not so much. There's a few smaller ones however you've got 3 main CSX, BNSF, and UP.

Now let's look at the laws and what is going on with trucking. Werner, SWIFT/Central Refrig., and I don't know what the next largest is I'd say it's about tied between CRST/CRST MALONE, PRIME, and englad. And then you've got a few other smaller companies such as landstar roehl etc.

Now let's look at the brokerages. Used to be a lot of honorable mom and pops out there that you could make good money with now not so much there's a few but not many. Once again the government it trying to squash the little guys for control. Well there's 3 main railroads, they're trying to push all the small trucking companies out and get it down to 3 major big dogs, and on the brokerage side and forgive me for this because it'd all go to hell that way but I reckon it'd be TQL, UTI, and I don't know about the 3rd brokerage I don't use brokers anymore and couldn't tell who would be the next largest but they'd get it down to 3 and probably a few smaller yet still large firms.

Now I probably sound like a wackadoodle but I wouldn't doubt that's what theyre planning. It's not too far off I don't think just have to wait and see what happens.

Speaking of brokers I seen an ad that sunteck apparently now has authority and trailers. I pulled 1 load for them load of RR ties that went 50 miles. Cost me more for the wrecker to come pull my truck out from beside the tracks than the load paid and they were supposed to pick up the bill until they seen it was $514. Anyway they're hiring owner operators paying anywhere from 75 to 78% and you can have the pleasure of pulling one of their trailers for the grand old price of $325/week.

Some of these owner operator ads make me sick. Sure we're going to take 22-25% of gross and on top of that were going to charge you to pull one of our pieces of junk that we will refuse to fix, oh and we're going to charge you 2x more for a base plate and charge you a pretty penny for insurance that you don't need...but we pay every week but you Probably won't get a check for about oh...a month and then it might be a few hundred bucks.

I'm exaggerating slightly but it seems to be about the norm. Starting to think about looking for a reefer or a flatbed idk which one is worse at this point.

Duane,
for some reason or another, several of thes e threads must be locked because I cannot reply. I will attempt to clear the air on broker, co-broker, freight forwarder, 3pl.
First off, all parties that connect shippers with receivers that do NOT own trucks fit under the umbrella of 3PL. Call it a friendlier term. To some, broker is a four-letter word.
With that said, let's define some terms.
Broker - a party that does NOT own the freight being moved, but arranges for the shipment and pays the carrier.
Co - broker. A party that helps the original broker move shipments. Typically done when number of shipments is large or service area is diverse. Done correctly, they will split the commission (like real estate agents) not get double commissions.
Freight fowarder. This is a person that has to have a seperate authority from FMCSA. Does not apply to most bulk loads because a commodity traders license does most of the same function. A freight forwarder not only arranges for the shipment of the load, but actually OWNS the freight in the trailer until it is delivered. A lot of financial liability and exposure is experiences by this person and they deserve every single penny they make. Too bad with commodities that 10-15% on total load is common. So on a $17,000 Organic load that pays in 30-45 days that is $2,550. But that is one load. Try turning 10 of those in a week. Cash flow gets tight.

I understand totally what you mean on the cash flow aspect. I pay my drivers well before I get paid and it does get to be a juggling act to keep the banker, the trucks and my wife, (she's also co owner of this operation and accountant for the company) all happy. You pretty much stated what I knew but could not put into words. I found it interesting that two 3pls would come on bulkloads site to exchange loads between themselves in a public forum. I get contacted almost daily by these new 3pl outfits and when they find out I am a "Broker" (shudder shudder gasp in horror) I am not so eloquently told that I am basically scum of the earth and they are not allowed to work with me. Here comes this thread showing them doing exactly what they say they will under no circumstances do. Sometimes a person just has to call bullshit, especially when those same 3pls call me to solicit freight from me. Nuff said.
