So I have been placed in charge of my companies bulk loads for the time being. This is not something I've done previously. My questions are the following: What is the typical information needed in negotiaing. Does product matter or is some material considered bad? Is per ton rate the usual go to payment or is it a mixed basket? Any addtional info or comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes product matters.
Some products and locations are a major pain in the ass.
Some are heavy some are light.

You will need to study which is which. There are charts that you can get for different products. I took the charts and built a calculator in Excel that calculates by the Ton, Bushel, Carot, and then converts it to our margins. If you bid all bulk by the weight you will end up losing on the lighter products. You will also need to take into consideration the facilities that you are loading at and delivering to. Not all bulk products are made the same even if they are the same product.

Trust me when I say this you will find out from your drivers which ones suck and which ones don't. You better listen to the drivers or you won't keep them very long.

Good luck on your venture into the Bulk World. Don't quite know why you ventured this way the rates still suck.

Gotta get the loads where I can at this point. If not I guess I'll learn from my mistakes. Thanks for the help.

Take a little time, look around for the information on the internet that I was eluding to.

Stumbling around and making mistakes is foolish. Studying and making educated decisions on the other hand will save you a lot of headache and your reputation as well.
