Stupid people make bad brokers!

So I called an agent at TQL this morning to find out a rate for a load they had posted, I was politely asked if I had ever worked by the CWT, I replied yes often. He then went on to explain that there were lanes that were at 1.50/mile so you take the total amount of cwt x 1.50 and that gives you the amount of what you would get paid! LMFAO!!!! At this point it was evident to me that I had just wasted 10 minutes of my life and that he was hopeless so I said "this just is not going to work" and said good bye. He also stated that this is a new customer and he was trying to get his foot in the door. Well it is my experience that before you get your foot in the door you need to have your head out of your ass! WTF! This is what we are dealing with these days! Refer haulers that see easy money in brokerage but have NO common sense or even have the common knowledge to do basic mathematics!!!

God help us in the future! This is NOT good!

Before the broker can get his head out of his ass, he needs to take the slong out of his mouth and learn how to properly bid the account. Then we have the trucker who claims to be a business owner that has no idea as to what a profit margin is. They will run at a bullshit rate that another trucker told them. So the truckers need to get their heads out of each others asses and sit down and learn some good old fashioned ciphering skills.
I think those poor bastards that work at TQL wasted their money going to college. Maybe they were stoned at math class. Too Quirky Loco's is what I call them.

I can tell that both of you seem very passionate with your hatred towards TQL and brokers in general. We all have dealt with some bad apples in the past and we think all are the same. However, you hit it right on the nose when you said what the problem was. Inexperience with new brokers have them quoting new customers way too cheap just to "get in the door" or using the quotes off of terrible drivers to make a buck. I have said it alot, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Good thing is Im not money hungry because im not the "poor bastard" that went to college and now having to pay student loans back. Intead, I served this country and learned the value of teamwork and respect for others.I like taking care of my primary carriers, this is a business where we all have to make money and do business together to make the customer happy. Even though you guys hate TQL, I really enjoy reading your forums about the industry and bad experiences you have had. It helps me become more knowledgable of the industry, the truckers needs and it humoruos at times. Thanks guys. Good luck with your businesses!

-An HONEST TQL broker.

There are just as many bad brokers as there are bad drivers. Saying that all Brokers are terrible because of a bad experience is not fair to those of us that quote good and pay well. Like the other guy said, not all of us are young colege kids with no experience. I like him served and got a degree, in that order. I can appreciate your frustration with brokers, But we are all working together and need to stop the mud slinging. Its not helping anyone.

To both you and Adam from a fellow vet. Thanks for your service.

I had a private of mine that I caught stealing from his fellow soldiers. As I was inflicting wrath upon him and his roommates the other two privates swore up and down they were not involved in the stealing. I explained to them that there was mo honor among thieves and that they were just as guilty by association with such. To stand by and watch another function without honor makes ones own honor become questionable. You are judged by the company you keep. Here is a suggestion for you two, find a firm that does not publicly gloat about their dishonorable actions. Then you will not be lumped into the piss pot of dishonor.

There was a honorable private that came to me and did not dime drop on his buddy, he quite simply asked to be moved to another room. Not only did he show honor in having all of his brothers six, he also showed personal integrity which is far rarer in our society as a whole.

The day for working together willingly is now over. We at the Independent Carrier Group have decided it is time to take back our freedom with integrity by force.

Don't get caught in a round of friendly fire, move on while you still can.

I get what your saying, but saying I am guilty of negligence because of something another broker did, in another office, on the other side of the country, is the same as saying all military everywhere suck because of something a pvt did on a base, on the other side of the country and you have no idea who they are. So no, I do not subscribe to being lumped in with a bad broker I dont even know.

First off a big thanks to Alfred for eloquently writing a very nice reply!

To the TQL agents who think we hate your company, It is not a hatred for any individual or company. I personally don't like when big van companies come in to play in a pond they no nothing about and screw things up. Before you dip your feet ing the new pond you should know something about the water. Know how to figure a rate then when you know how to figure out the rate, use the right numbers to produce a rate that will allow the very people who make you money to actually make some money too! Just because you get your portion off the top does not mean that it is a good load! Have some pride in your work, think or the truck driver, the truck owner before you cut the rates just to try to get yours!

Boys this is not my first rodeo! I have been in this business a long time and would be willing to bet longer than the agent I talked to monday has been alive, and have seen changes in this industry that I don't like! We in the trucking industry have gone from a highly respected proffession to just being Damn truck drivers! I am with Alfred, we need to have some interity in this industry! I commend you for sticking up for your company but you really need to take a good honest look at where you are working. Your company may be respected in the van and refer area but your have no respect in the hopper area! This is not my first run in with TQL. The practices that I have personally seen from your company make me skip over every load I see on a load board with the TQL name! I will let others make up their own minds but I would not recomend your company to ANYONE!

Times are tough and we don't need people in the business that may have a college education but have not common sense or ability to figure rates!

They are not respected in any segment. They have been found guilty by a jury of their peers. You should here what my honorable broker friends say about them. If you think we truckers are bad, shit we are tame compared to the brokers. I qill not name my honorable contacts as they have deferred to me to speak on all of we honorable business owners behalf. Even TQL can not say that I was always blunt and honest with them. Like you Ed, I just got tired of talking to folks that do not even have a clue and are just trying to qin a new car.

Qe have the exact same problem with truckers. Get a rig, get your authority and badda boom badda bing you are now the trucker king.

No wonder our industry is a cess pool of shit heads by and larege. The honor code is basically gone. Money money money is all everbody is after. Profit is all I care about, the profit of my company, the profit of my customer, the profit of my men, and most important the profit of my feedom with integrity.

Gotta go meet with my shipper about a few more lanes.

Why do we even need brokers? What ever happened to going to the customers DIRECT? We never needed them before... why now? But but but the companys dont want to deal with the small guys...ok then get a bunch of independents together and form a CO-OP... hire somebody to answer the phone and fo the book keeping and that way the middle man is cut out.. and the shipper gets a better price and the truckers make MORE money.. you wont get decieved with a bunch of balony like the loads in oklahoma city.. and you find out that its in arkansas...

I would love to do this! The problem is that when you are a North Dakota carrier and you are in Texas it is hard to get the premium loads out of Texas. We do GREAT on the way out but not so well out of areas other than our home area. I would absolutely LOVE to meet with a group of HONERABLE carriers and get together to work with each other out of our area and yours! I think instead of bitching about this maybe we should try this. What do you guys think?

Alfred I would really like your opinion on this plan!

That was the idea of the Independent Carrier Group. I have been trying but it seems that very few understand the concept of teamwork and brotherhood anymore.

Things have changed for sure! I have been in this industry since the mid 80's when I decided to quit college. Integrity, loyalty and honesty was the name of the game. Now it is about who can screw the others over the most!

One thing I can tell you for sure is even when you do get your foot in the door, if you can not deliver the door will slam shut with your foot in it or not!

Alfred I am going to look you up online and get in contact with you. I would love to talk with you about your group.

I will make this simple. I am an O/O who posted on here looking for a decent carrier/company. I also indicated that I wanted a company that had "a relationship" with their customers.......ie Shippers. I went on to explain in my post that loadboard scalping rebrokering companies not wanted!! Needless to say I did not get one taker.

Most brokers these days just sit at home and farm load boards the same way people farm e-bay and craigs list. They take their cut and just farm it out to someone else.

I am very close to getting my own authority. I can afford it. Why should I give %25 to someone sitting at home looking up loads on a lap top. I can do that myself!! Even the company I am leased to is jumping on the "rebrokering" and "load board" scalping game. I am really done with it. I am safe, compliant, clean truck, clean back ground etc. But after I posted that rebrokering load board loving companies need not call me........I didnt get a single call. This tells me the current state of affairs we are in.

I might need to go down to Peculiar MO and talk with my friend down there. He knows the score.

I like the idea of some sort of O/O Cooperative.

Are you a single truck operation with your own authority? What is the size of your operation and are you pulling hopper bottoms? We are a North Dakota company.
