Fleet Tracking Systems

Mar 14, 2017 at 12:27 PM CST
I am looking for more information on fleet tracking systems. We currently have trackers on our trucks, but it is very expensive and they always have techincal difficulties, so I am looking for other options. What do you use? Would you recommend it? Cost?

Teletrac has a good system however, we have had issue after issue with the equipment working, and takes weeks for Teletrac to get a Tech scheduled to repair their equipment, would not recommend due to equipment issues

We are currently looking at a system from Keep on Trucking that on the surface appears to be simple yet effective and cost is reasonable.

I can't give input in regards to Elogs as we don't currently use them but they are also offered by the same company that does our GPS tracking. We use Fleetmatics. $40/month and a 3 yr contract. No install fees or costs associated with the actual devices. Have had great service from them everytime I've had to contact them. The biggest headache I had was when they converted us to Fleetmatics Reveal. Nothing changed in the trucks but the phone app and websites changed. More info and things could be done and I had a slight learning curve getting things up to speed with the maintence tracking. I had to go in and input the current odometers on all vehicles. Was really a minor thing but it took awhile for me to relay what I needed and them too tell me how to get it done. They were are always courteous and prompt with my calls and emails. The only problems I've encountered are most likely common to other companies too. Sometimes I get alerts for speeding that are false. The GPS sometimes picks up an adjacent road (access road) or wrong speed limit (from the adjacent rd or just not current). You have to investigate and look at where the truck is and make a judgement call before you contact the driver and reprimand them . This doesn't happen often but if you run the same lanes often (especially with multiple trucks) you can pick up a pattern of where these will occur. I've received alerts on myself before and knew I wasn't speeding. I have had them come on for 65 in a 35 on US 59 south of Houston as an example. As far as the unit working and locating your truck I've never had an issue.

I highly recommend them and if you do contact them and convert please tell them you were referred by Scott Barraza with Barraza Trucking from Corpus Christi, TX.

Hey, Danielle.
We use Pedigree Technologies. We don't currently have E-Logs, but we will convert with them when we have to. After the set-up fee, they monitor for $29/month per vehicle. You can run an IFTA quarterly report and, honestly, monitor a lot more than we do, including safety and maintenance alerts. Our shop mechanic is able to install them, so you can save fees there. The units can be swapped between vehicles, too. I can email you some examples of the reports if you want.

Fleetmatics quoted me $55/month for a 3 year contract. I like what they have to offer, but not sure I want to pay that plus $150 one time install fee per truck.

I have talked with KeepTruckin and they are $20-30/ month with a 1 year contract and the device is free. They offer fleet tracking, IFTA tracking, and a few other options, as well as meeting the eld mandate requirements.

We have used field logix for years. The monthly subscription cost is $14 a month per truck. That is GPS tracking, breadcrumb activity along with several other options. You can upgrade to $19 a month and have access to idle time, hard braking, G-force indicators, etc. They have a two-year contract, after that it is month to month. They have always answered the phone promptly when I called and I've never had any issues with their service. I have it for 5 of my trucks. You can move it from truck to truck yourself it's very easy to install and hide.
