The 50/50 program

I hosted a video in Trucking for Profit about this program the other day in Facebook.

If it cost .50 for a driver to drive the truck, and it cost .50 for fuel for the truck.

How can one make profit off of a truck when you are running it at the 50/50 program. They can't they will be going bankrupt. Good stuff right there folks.

.50+.50= bankruptcy folks. you should be running for over twice that, That is just the truth folks.

The ratio used to be that the employee cost 25% of the business..the owner got 25% for their time.. the rest went to truck cost such as payments repairs, fuel licensing etc..so your 50/50...needs to rearange a little ..as you pointed out.. fuel can not be 50% of the rate..so if wages are 50 cents.. then rate needs to be AT LEAST 2 BUCKS..

Yep Jeff, you are right, we are stating the same thing. I have been talking with a lot of folks out there running their tails off in the legalized Ponzi scheme we now know as trucking.

The same thing comes to mind when I see those ads for the mega carriers (and others) advertising owner ops wanted and the pay is $0.95-$1.10 plus surcharge. Who would want to own a truck much less become a lease op (not owner op you own nothing) when they can make more money staying a company driver. It seems these days owner ops are either willing to give up their driver wages or truck wages (profit). I see the same thing coming from these brokers. 1000 mile trip and it pays $1100. Really? No thanks. These mega fleets and brokers seem to think $1.00/mile is a fair rate and those owner ops who get their own authority will pull it because that's what they got in their lease.

If you look at that buck a mile that they advertise...a driver at some companys are 52 cents..plus the other half of social security..2 cents..workers comp about 6 cents, then the hand outs health insurance...401k...profit sharing...and what ever else.. lets say 15 cents..works out to 75 cents a mile..all they own is a sleeping bag and a suitcase...
Then that owner operator truck payment..fuel..maintinance..licensing...road taxes...and yes youdo get write offs BUT...WHERE DOES ALL THIS ADDED EXPENSE COME INTO PLAY INTO THAT 25 CENTS THATS LEFT OVER FROM A DRIVER? And when thst tire goes flat..driver sits..o/o sits and then pays for it..
This is why they had regulation..so even the not so educated could be forced to make a good living.

If anyone is up to it, go to ARTI's website, download "An Analysis of the Operational Costs of Trucking: 2016 Update"
Look at the Board of Directors & Research Advisory Committee- dosen't seem to be any brokers there? Wonder why?
Pretty wonky stuff, but real numbers.
I'll just take an example-
Table 10, Average Marginal Cost per Mile, 2015- $1.593
That's just the truck, no admin, no other overhead, etc.
Seems silly to roll for anywhere close to a number like that unless it's your hobby.

I drove back in the regulated days... most shops fuel places etc...are pretty much the same price..less than 1 or 2% different..some of us know how to say no to cheap freight..but look how many dont have a clue on how much it costs to run a truck... or they think well this 84 pete is paid for but never plan for the future and will haul cheap not thinking about that newer truck that one day they will have to replace that worn out tired old truck..as many companies did as their authority was worth money they could borrow on it in slow times.. companies like international transport had millions worth of authority..and it would carry them over.. 1971 you got about 75 cents per mile for general freight..trucks were about 17000 dollars.. fuel about a quarter.. drivers made first seat a dime.. second seat a nickle..everything has gone up about 10 times EXCEPT WAGES AND FREIGHT RATES...wonder why?

They don't like the truth Jeff. I have posted BOL's from the 70's with the rates on them. I have written the formula and shown the shippers cost. I have made numerous postings stating the truth. I have made many videos to include launching the giant killer campaign. Hell, I set up a private web site for Independent Carriers. I even made an app for them to show them how to bid.

I feel that I have done all I can and folks still deny the truth and run down the road for less than truckers were making 20-40 years ago.

I guess their false sense of pride is all they got left. I would rather know that I was wrong and correct the wrong vs thinking I was right and I was wrong.

People like us are tired of the rest of you whining and not learning to accept the truth that you are diluting the market and letting the MegaCorps screw your hineys.

What should I expect, the total dumbing down of the world has been very effective.
