Smokin hot round trip deal

So I called on this load from Kansas City to St. Louis for my dry van the other day. The broker told me it was $750.00 round trip for 500 miles. I replied that I could do it for $1250.00. I thought he was going to choke, he came back and said no I said $750.00, I then told him lets meet in the middle at $1000.00 because that is all I got in it. He got frustrated and said the customer would not pay that amount. I told him that I was currently making more then that on another dedicated run to Wichita and back and we were using the customer's trailer.

Here is the smokin hot part of the deal, come to find out another customer of mine calls me and ask if we would be interested in doing this dedicated run from Kansas City to St. Louis for them round trip. I told them if the price is right we can make it happen, feel for the broker that did not take my first offer because now we are going to get paid more from the shipper direct and they want to give us a few more lanes as well. I started calling a couple of the owner operators that have been wanting to lease on with me and tell them to get their trucks ready for these gigs.

What can I say Smokin

No, not yet thanks for asking. I am working on three more customers as well. These are all dry van loads, hoppers still are not where I want them to be. I will feel the hopper market out next week to see what is going on there. Jason told me it is picking up a little bit.

Yes Kevin, I got the email. I will get with you when we have everything ready over the next couple of months. Sorry I have not gotten back to you sooner, you will be getting a call from another member of our group either today or tomorrow on a hopper gig he thinks you may be interested in.

I am focusing more on the dry vans right now, because it seems that I can get more money there for our guys. The Mega's have been over promising and underdelivering for quite a while now. The shippers that I am working with have known me for a long time, way before I ever got into trucking. They know that I always deliver on what I say can be done. They also know that they are tired of too many fingers in the honey pot and seeing the trucks getting less than their fair share.

There is a wind of change that is occurring in our industry, and many are not prepared for the changes that are coming. Many a small carrier and broker will fall by the wayside over the next year, I hate to say this but this is necessary. For those of us that survive this culling of the herd, we had better know that we need to work together instead of against each other. We at the ICG feel that the laws, regulations, and guidelines that are being put into place are trying to drive all small business owners into controlled contracts with the Mega's. These contracts will basically make us their subcontractors (really glorified employees) that we take all the risk for them and receive very little of the reward. The only way we can combat this is by taking back what is ours in the first place, Freedom with Integrity.

Good luck to all that still function as hononable shippers, brokers, and carriers, through this culling period. The gooberment is not here to help you folks they are here to control you, they are bought and paid for with the varoius lobbying groups that do not represent We the People any longer. We are at the precipice and are being forced to either jump off or turn and fight. When your back is against the wall, just remember to use the wall to suppoort you in a fight, when you realize the wall that was designed to stop you can be used to support you, then you will recognize the power of Freedom with Integrity. Continue to fight the good fight, do it peacefully, do it with honor, do it with Integrity, even when the other side does not. Honor and Integrity will always win over dishonor and untruth.

When corporate greed has become the only thing considered important in our country and world. The world will have a shift and then the very ones that have been greedy will find themselves at the bottom of the very cess pool that they have created. History is indicative of the future and will always repeat itself, look at what happened down through out history when individuals in power and control got too greedy for their own good. Others would rise up and figure out how to knock them off of the hill and replace them, then the cycle would start all over again. These cycles range about 75-100 years like clockwork, the current cycle is coming on 80 years and is do for an overhaul. The Mega's all know this as well, this is why there is the big push to control us even more than ever. I never understand why they don't have the intelligence to just be less greedy and then they could break the cycle. Oh well, I guess greed is like a drug and then leads to the addiction, we all know that an addict very rarely gets rid of their addiction on their own. They need others to help break them of their addiction, so for all of us freedom loving individuals it is our moral responsibliity to help the greedmonsters break their addiction, we are actually doing them a favor by doing so.

What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but loose his own soul?

So here I am working on another deal and it looks like we are about to wrap it up and go to contract when a broker calls the customer and tells him that he can get him trucks for $400.00 less than I am willing to do it for. I look at the customer and just shrug my shoulders and tell him that he has to do what he has to do. I told him to give me a call when the broker failed, but for him to enjoy the discount trucker while he can. He said thanks and that he would let me know how it went, and that he would most likely be calling me back.

Went on the load board this morning and saw the load posted, called the broker and now they are tryiing to get it moved for 60% less than they bid it at This would bring the load in at $1.00 per mile to the truck. I think we all know what the outcome of this story will be. Sure the broker will move some loads, sure they will make some quick money, then they will end up like all the others failing to find trucks to cover the customers needs and they will be back out hunting for another customer.

So here it is you brokers blame us truckers all the time for underbidding you and yet it looks to be all of us underbidding each other. It is a lot easier to underbid when you don't have a lot of skin in the game. Am I pissed off at the shipper? No, because I would most likely do the same thing. Am I pissed off at the broker? No, because I know a lot of others would do the same thing. In the end it will once again be the truckers fault that hauls this garbage freight for the $1.00 per mile that the greedy broker is offering.

I have yet to win a deal because I am the cheapest deal around, that is not my style. I offer the best service for the best price, and as the old saying goes, "You can't win them all", nor do I want to.

Thats pretty sad that Truckers are moving freight for $1 per mile. i guess they like working for free, thats ok if they want to work for free but by doing that they are causing massive damage to the industry and how can it ever get better when they continue working so cheap. just my 2cents to a messed up situation.
