U.S., Japan Trade Deals Provide Opportunity for Rural America

On Monday, President Donald Trump oversaw the signing of two limited trade deals with Japan, reducing tariffs on agricultural products including $2.9 billion worth of America’s beef and pork products. The deals were signed by U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Japanese Ambassador to the U.S. Shinsuke J. Sugiyama in the White House. According to Jim Wiesemeyer of Pro Farmer, the limited trade deal is intended to boost markets for American farmers and give Tokyo assurances that, for now, the U.S. won’t impose tariffs on auto imports.
