Students who attended the field trips became familiar with the research farm and participated in five 30-minute lessons on grain nutrition, grain food demonstration, grains and animals, corn science and grain production. At the grain nutrition station, students learn about the six major types of grains and discuss the importance of eating whole grains. They practice finding grain ingredients listed on food product packaging and also learn to recognize the whole grain food stamp. At the grain food demonstration lesson, students review the six major types of grains and handle samples of each in their seed forms. They identify the grain products in bread and work with a partner to make bread in a bag that they take home to bake.
