The state of Missouri was one of just six states recently awarded a major grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to investigate new ways to raise revenue to pay for its highways. New highway revenue is a focus for both Missouri and the federal government because of widespread concern that the federal Highway Trust Fund won’t be able to keep pace with increasing construction and repair costs nationwide, which would mean that road conditions will continue to deteriorate even as traffic becomes more congested.
