Dump truck owners have had nearly a decade to prepare for the province’s lift axle rule, Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation said in response to a protest this week outside Premier Doug Ford’s Etobicoke constituency office. Approximately 50 dump truck drivers stood outside Ford’s office for an hour on Jan. 13 with placards that read, “COVID is hurting our industry too,” and argued the regulation is putting them out of work during the pandemic.
