Nikola Motor Co., a 5-year-old firm in Phoenix that most Americans have never heard of, says it has an order to lease 14,000 semitrucks that will run on hydrogen, an assertion that, if realized, could mark the start of a significant slowdown in transportation carbon emissions. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), "the growth in oil demand from trucks has outpaced all other sectors since 2000" and is projected to result in a "significant increase in CO2 emissions by 2050." |
