Historic rainfall, severe cold and snow in 2019 left devastating impacts on Michigan’s farming and agricultural communities. Heading into the 2020 growing season, many farmers in parts of the state were already feeling behind schedule, running out of time and options. Nearly 38 inches of rain fell in West Michigan between May 1, 2018, and April 30, 2019, making it the third-wettest year on record in Michigan's history. Flooded or muddied fields prevented many farmers from planting and harvesting crops in 2019, creating futuristic hardships.
