VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- A Valdosta man is dead after colliding head-on with a trailer that broke free from a truck.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, 58-year-old Gary Cantrell of Valdosta was killed in the accident on Cat Creek Road near New Bethel Road, about a mile west of Moody Air Force Base, around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Troopers say Cantrell's vehicle was headed north and collided head-on with a grain trailer that had disconnected from a pickup truck during a curve. The trailer traveled into Cantrell's lane, killing him on impact.
