For-hire trucking companies have added more than 128,000 jobs since the bottom of the recent employment scale in March 2010 and are slowly chugging toward pre-recession levels of January 2007 — the pre-recession peak. The December employment report released this week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows trucking added 4,200 jobs to bring the total number of trucking jobs to 1.3625 million — a 3.4 percent gain from December 2011.
Wichita Business Journal The Dillwyn grain elevator in Stafford County, owned by Kanza Co-op, will be closed for about a week for repairs after an accident ripped off one of the elevator's loading chutes. The Pratt Tribune reports the outpouring of grain almost completely buried the tractor-trailer that had struck the loading chute. The driver escaped the vehicle safely before the truck was engulfed.

HOUSTON — A tanker truck has crashed and exploded on a Houston freeway. Authorities say the driver has been killed at the wreck on U.S. Highway 59 east of Bush Intercontinental Airport and hazardous material crews have been trying to determine the nature of the cargo. A fire that shut both sides of the freeway has been contained and officials say the southbound lanes have been reopened. The wreck is near the east interchange on U.S. 59 that leads to Houston’s main airport.
GREENWICH -- A truck got stuck under a railroad bridge on Sound Beach Avenue near Arcadia Road at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. Metropolitan Transportation Authority police were sent to the scene to back the truck out of the bridge. Traffic was affected in the area.
