I have a feeling a lot of independent truckers are going to have to close doors.\n \n For example: Our shipper wants us to transport wheat for .90/100 or $18.00 per ton; sounds great doesn't it. Well $18.00 a ton isn't anything when they are asking that you deadhead back. The trip would pay us $486.00 and that is what the shipper sees. What they don't take into consideration is the fuel at $4.19 a gallon. The round trip for us is 402 miles and we get 5 miles to a gallon so we would use 81 gallons of fuel or $340 in fuel. For every trip we need to put $20.00 away for an oil change ($300 in this neck of the woods) and money away for the maintenance of the truck (God forbid that we blow a tire on the trip). Well in essence; the trip ends up having us pocket $30.00.\n \n We could get a load back but the broker wants to pay us $10.00/ton because we didn't haul his wheat. in a trk wreck----son u will never go broke as long as u have a load on your trk,because as long as u have a load on, there is still someone u can get money from.i think of that everyday when i am
