I have the factory gauge for the drives in the cab and a gauge on the trailer, but having both weights in one location would be nice. My only complaint with my current setup is loading at unlevel locations is a little touchy. It come from the days of when we did mostly end-dump work and was being loaded off a belt that was in a very dirty/dusty plant. It also worked well when being loaded with a loader, if the loader man would slow up when he was getting close plus the driver didn't have to get out to look at his gauge and be next to the loader.. Most of the time I can be within 1,000 pounds. While not quite the air scales that the OP was talking about it at least gives an idea of how close you are. Whatever brand of truck is the type of gauge we run. We just buy a air gauge for the air system and use it for the load gauge. If the truck does not have a air gauge for the truck we tee into the air bags and run to the dash. Same thing for the trailer. Trailer line is hard plumbed on the truck side and have a regular quick coupler on the trailer. We use 1/4\" air line to go to the gauge with. For my truck when it hits 56 on the tractor I pull up and when it hits 72 on the trailer I honk and they shut off the grain. The truck gauge will come up to 67 when I'm loaded. My steer axle is at 12,000, drivers at 34,000, and trailer at 34,000. If you being loaded fast sometimes the gauges will not keep up, which I think that the air bags themselves are not keeping up. As I said this is a poor mans way. Each truck and trailer will read different. If your dropping and hooking a lot it might not be the best idea. For us each driver is assigned his truck, hopper and end-dump so they pretty much know what it should read. If you have any questions you can call me (417-438-4957).
