The rates need to go up very soon. Fuel is how we do business. Im not allowed to run \"red\" fuel like the farmers that gamble the dot dipping their tanks. They dont care, or even know how to figure a rate. All they want is their driver to have a job in the off season, pay for fuel,drivers wages, thats it the rest is a write off. Lets see when the farmers, with hoppers, go back to the field who can carry the load! Thats when we ALL need to let the brokers have it! Or not haul it. If you exceed 45%, you are on your way to going out of business. It's that simple. Take your immediate costs,(fuel, meals, hotels), to haul that load. Take that figure and divide it into what the load pays. Example: A load of XXX pays $40.00 per ton. You can haul, let's say, 25 ton. $40X25tn=$1,000.00 Gross-450 miles to haul this load. Now let's subtract your \"cost of goods\" from the gross figure. Costs are $376.00 for fuel at $3.69 per gallon. $25.00 for meals, and $55.00 for a hotel. Total costs are $456.00. Today fuel is $3.85 a gal. and a steer tire costs me around $450.00 and yaw all know what insurance cost is and ur ICC is a welcome mat for the DOT to tell you how to run ur business! Im pullin my cow trucks off the rd. and puttin log trailers behind them! Why? I am cutting back overhead and my trucks will be home everynite, a ol timer told me if i cant put my hands on my trucks everynite! poop would hit the fan soon or later and i figured out what he meant! Ur truck is 1300 miles away and a breakdown happens! ur butt is at the mersey of the rd side service or the out of town repair shops! A very close friend paid $1400.00 to have a injector replaced in his C15 in NE. last week! I wonder if the the owner of that shop can sleep well at nite! I feel like greed has took over and all we can do pray to the good lord our trucks only break down near home! LOL! I thought i could always find away to make a honest living if i took advise from the old timers, but today i dont think there is away! But to me trucking is my life! Theres times i love it and times i hate it! I pray it will get better for all of us someday! I think someday there may be a real truckers strike, the U.S will stop dead in its tracks, and i feel like we will be able to get back on the rd and do what the lord put us on this earth to do! CHEAP RATES

Gentleman we need to work together to get these rates up, lets say no to cheap rates I think its bs. Seems like every time i call a broker they try to see what rate i will say then they say oh no to late, someone is already doing it for cheap .32 cents a bushel for 210 round trip??
