EOBR'S WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?
EOBR’s- Too much to ask or just what you need?
During the last couple of years we have all read articles discussing the use, need, and significance of EOBR’s (Electronic onboard recorders), but are they really what the industry needs?
In the latest issue of Logistics Management there is an article that touts five leading trucking companies calling for federal regulations that would require all interstate trucking companies to install EOBR’s. They are also urging most of the larger shippers to require that carriers who handle their freight have these devices. These companies are; Maverick USA, Schneider National, U.S. Xpress, J.B. Hunt Transportation Services, and Knight Transportation.
According to Steve Williams, chairman and CEO of Maverick USA and former chairman of the ATA, shippers need to better manage their supply chains to bring the driver and his legal HOS into the overall equation. “Those shippers who understand it and can invest and build around this predictable regulatory doctrine will be the ones who get the trucks,” Williams predicts. “The others will find trucks in short supply.” Williams was responding in the wake of the introduction of a Senate Bill called “Commercial Driver Compliance Improvement Act.” This bill was introduced by Sens. Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN). The Senate Bill would require carriers to implement EOBR’s within the next three years. Just like the old adage, where there is smoke there’s fire, I believe where the lawyers circle the laws will change.
If you would like to read the whole article please email me at [email protected] or signup for my news letter on the website at www.jigsawlogisicsgroup.com if not just sound off here. I would really like to know what this group thinks.
Thanks
