Holiday Inn Express / Barnetts Towing
I dropped a valve through a piston last week outside of Lubbock. I was running with another of my trucks so that truck was able to deliver loads and get trailer in a safe place. I was 3 tenths of a mile from the Holiday Inn Express in Wolforth Tx. (southwest side of Lubbock) I got the truck to the truck parking at this Holiday Inn Express at 10 am. I have towing Insurance ( Thank you lord ). Insurance and us agreed to use Barnetts Towing out of Phoenix. They brought me another power unit of mine. Approx noon that day Barnetts told us that they would get the new power there by 5-6 am. It was in the 30 deg range, but the forecast was for the temp to drop and it did. By sun down it was 27 degrees and dropping. I went in the motel and tried to get a room. I travel with a Cat. They do not allow pets. I understand, but this wasn't normal circumstances. I had no way to get to another location and I was expecting the tow truck. By 9 pm it was 20 degrees. I preach to my drivers to be prepared for these circumstances, obviously I could not operate the motor for heat. My cat has never been in anything below 60deg? and I'm not subjecting an animal to conditions that they are not accustomed to. I again asked the motel for a room, I was denied. To keep this as short as possible the temp dropped to 19. My blankets and sleeping bag were ok to about 25. After that we were very cold. I could not feel my feet for some hours. The tow truck arrived approx 6:30 PM. about 14 hours later than they said. To get from Phoenix to Lubbock the tow driver went from Phoenix to El Paso, then Carlsbad, Lubbock. In my "opinion" Barnetts Towing was less than professional. They totally misrepresented what they could and would do and they were notified that I was trapped and had a problem. Driver stated "not my problem". He was alone and was NOT going to break any DOT reg's.
Holiday Inn Express, I respect their policy, but if you are in a jam and need some consideration ??? I would have paid about anything at the time to be warm.
Thanks Art Pfluger
