IT'S ME AGAIN, WHO'S ACTUALLY TO BLAME?

I know in the past I've encited some opinion based and often heated arguments even though it was not my intention. My question to you now is, Why are brokers and others offering loads to O/O's being blamed for the low rates this year? Does anyone stop and think who it is that actually sets the rates for the bulk loads we haul in hoppers? I know there is alot of freight out there moving at embarassing rates and it is very tough to run your business being forced to haul at these rates, I had a conversation with a carrier earlier today who saw a posting I had and thought it was a typo when he read the rate because it was $1.58/mi on oats. Yes, you're right that rate isn't good, but it IS NOT MY FAULT!!! the broker does not set the rates, as a general rule of thumb, what determines the rates is this "The cheapest rate I can get a truck to haul it at, I've been moving them at this rate" this is what keeps the rates low, I can't speak for the rest of the brokers in the business but, I am always working with my clients to get the rates up where they belong, I DO NOT bid freight just to get it and worry about moving it at a low rate later, this is not how it goes, I am not here to point the finger of blame at anyone, I merely would like to understand why the brokers are being abused for it. I love my job and do it to the best of my ability and am trying to build a network of carriers, dispatchers, brokers, & buyers who I can work with, I am not what most consider a broker to be, I work very hard and don't Scr@w people over. I believe strongly "What goes around comes around". Stop blaming, start fixing.
