I had a guy blow a motor up and then did other damage to the truck, when I let hom go he told me that all he wanted was to get fired so he could collect unemplyment. He is one of many. People don't care about the truck owner at all. They can't get the relationship between the owner making money and them having a job. Really they aren't even steering wheel holders anymore. If you need OTR drivers it gets even worse. If I got a couple of real drivers they would be well taken care of. No one has pride in equipment, job skills or anything. Most of them that had any sense bought their own. I think the guys that bought one and had to sell it or lost it might have a clue, but they seem to be even worse. They all have to be home at least every other night or I guess they are scared of something. Where is the pride in skills anymore?\n I don't have the answer on drivers. Got a call at 05:30 in the morning that he would not be able to make it. Told him that's ok I will just do it myself. He called back a few hours later stating that he was ready to go. I informed him that the truck was gone and we no longer needed his services. He did not even make it on one trip, or seven hours as a company driver. Here's the deal the load paid $950.00 for 250 miles. He would have made $285.00 for about 5 hours of work. I guess he just did not want to work, or he had a problem getting up early. Should have known because he was about 4 hours late meeting with me on Sunday to do his paperwork. We have given up on drivers that are Prima-Dona's and think just because they have a CDL that they are able to tell us how to run our business. We are going to train Green Horns the right way, I am willing to pay the extra $100.00 per month in insurance to make sure that I get the type of driver we want. I know it sucks that we have to go this way, but the way I figure is in about 6 months I will possibly have the driver that I need. Some of these boneheads that have driven for us that have 10 years, 20 years, 30 years as a steering wheel holder consider themselves to be truckers. Most of them don't even last a month. Part of the problem is that all we get are the guys that start with a Swift or Schneider and they can't make the adjustment to a smal environment, but they want the big check. As an owner I am getting squeezed from every side. These guys will believe all of these recruiters, it amazes me. I tell them worst case scenarion. I don't and never have had a driver quit because I lied to them about the job.\n Once upon a time DAT came into the picture. I had drivers back then. DAT told all of these guys that if they kept changing jobs it would bite them. For some time people seemed to stay in one place longer. These days if I get an applicant they typically have at least 3 different jobs in one year. Some leave companies and then go back multiple times. I don't want a guy like that. Good drivers are getting harder to find, and I don't see that changing any time soon, and when you consider that many state's are legalizing pot, it's just a matter of time before the whole country follows suit, wich will really shrink the pool of useable applicant's that can meet the federal guidelines. JUST WONDERING IF ANYBODY ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM

Ive been tring to fill a driving position for 1 truck in my fleet and have had just about every scumbag in the U.S call on the position that know there aint a chance in hell of getting them insured, been devorced 20 times with 30 kids that he has to be home for visitation every other day or go to court every other day or has 3, 4 , 5 girlfreind proplems to deal with every day that is somehow made it my problem to deal with now or calls me about a job but is to lazy to even fill out an application but but has done it all and say there the best or someone that cant even get the ambition to clean a window in the truck once in a while.
i do run nice equipment i am a little anal about how the equipment is kept but still
Is it just me or does other companys have the same proplem
or is there just no drivers left that what to dive nice equipment make really good money and take a little bit of pride in there work
