Can you drivers that run in North Dakota and Minnesota tell me how you keep your hydraulic oil thin enough to pump in your floors and dumps? I am running hydraulic oil and seems to get awfull thick when we are up there.. Thanks

Putting Diesel Fuel in the Hyd Oil is not good for the Hyd pump, Artic Fox makes a Hyd Oil heater that you can put in your tank and it uses the hot water from your engine to heat your oil. I have one in my Hyd tank and it works just fine. Thats how almost all the Garabage Trucks use to heat their oil.

They have hydro oil that is designed for the cold. I've use it before.its 5 wt hydro oil. The trade name is easy pour. I've used it on equipment at minus 45 with no problems. Best is to contact the place that you buy your oil from, such as a jobber. They will know or find out for you what type or grade of oil that will fit your needs. In most places your across the counter hydro oil is either 10 wt or AW46. Or talk to the manufacture of the oil.. Most of the time they will answers any question that you have about any oils or grease. The big problem is that you don't want to change oil 2 or 3 times a year as the oil is very expensive, but you don't want to damage your hydro system with not the right wt of oil or contaminates. So if your in below zero and over 90 .. Let them know. They may have like a multi grade hydro. Good luck..

3 Gallons in how many? I would think that the amount would vary if you have 15 gallons to start with Vs 50 Gallons. I also would like to know. We don't go there often but we run 38 weight oil at home and it doesn't take much cold to get the pump screaming. Thanks for the help

How do you keep diesel motors running is this - temp stuff. I use over the counter stuff like Howes if we get into to wyoming and cold places, but haven't been in the kind of cold they are predicting. We also cover the fuel filters with socks from Walmart and know it makes a temp difference cause we have the dash computer read out and can see the fuel temp rise. Running out of Az we don't have in tank heaters and such. We are usually trying to figure out how to cool stuff down.
Thanks

I have a 50 gallon tank for oil. 45 oil and 3 diesel mix. truck and wet kit are both 10 years old and never had an issue. Howes works just fine for cold weather, just mix it stronger as it gets colder. I also have a factory installed hotline on the truck to keep the fuel filters and assemblies from freezing up.

We don't have near the cold here in KS, but we are expected to be below 0. I used to run #2 and Howes or Power Service. My problem is we are home at night. I used to doctor with additives when fueling during the week, park the truck Friday afternoon and by Monday morning it'd be gelled up. After unthawing a few times over the years, I finally pitched the additives in the trash and started blending early with #1. Expecting a cold weekend, Ive been filling up with #1 this week. Since using #1 we've had no issues. Some of my contractors still try and save a nickel with #2 and additives......the last cold spell one called on a Monday and said he'd be late.....was ungelling, my trucks were running without incident. I'd say if you can get #1 it'd be your best option.
