You want me to wait for your load... Or you want me to wait to unload? 80 bucks an hour. You can wait all day. And then when the clock runs out.. If your in the dock.. 10 hours off.. Can't move the truck sorry. The rail road does it .. Ships or the piers do it.. Why can't we. This needs to be run like a business, not like it has been as a frickin joke. If you go take your truck to the shop to get worked on, when that truck hits the bay.. That clock starts.. And at the end of the day. They go home no matter if your truck is finished or not. Same with a shipper or receiver ... Sorry we can load you tomorrow. Not demurage or stand by time, or what ever they want to call it. An straight hourly charge. And the driver gets a paid wage.. Then you don't need to speed.. And the e log will tell the employer if the guy is screwing around to much.. You can be totally legal , and act like other employees instead of a misused neglected truck driver. Every other job except field work is hourly.. Why can't we be? They want to closely regulate your work hours.. Then they can pay for it. These attorneys want to sue you for anything and everything.. Then the hourly rate needs to be able to afford it. Then, two years after deregulation was in force, I personally wrote letters to the hill explaining the problems deregulation caused our industry and received a virtual non-response from the White House, a nice letter from the Department of Labor, and a real nasty letter from Interstate Commmerence Comm, which was followed two months later by my first of three audits by the I.R.S.
