A couple of my vendors tell me if they get the rate to 3/4 of what i want they have guys that will take them and bounce back everyday. I lost a good driver in southern mo to another company that would get him home more and that's great. Too many companies hauling freight too cheap! Unbelievable! And they continue to do so even after being advised, not only from other business aquaintances, but from friends in the business as well. With the national average per gallon of fuel at $3.90, you can no longer haul grain for .25, .35, or even .40 cents per bushel if traveling over 125 miles (or more), especially at a bounce rate! But companies continue to do so. I have hauled grain for ADM many times when fuel was at $2.75 per gallon. Now that fuel has hit the current price of 3.90, I say no to ADM, because their rates either have not come up or not come up very much to offset the jump in fuel price. Its actually cheaper sometimes to dead head home (for example) than it is to haul a load of soybeans 127 miles for .20 cents per bushel. Even though its on the way home! Companies should consider this, loading time and unloading time, drive time, miles to next destination to obtain a load, etc...etc...multiplied by cheap rates will get these companies broke-QUICK!!! With the national average per gallon of fuel at $3.90, you can no longer haul grain for .25, .35, or even .40 cents per bushel if traveling over 125 miles (or more), especially at a bounce rate! But companies continue to do so. I have hauled grain for ADM many times when fuel was at $2.75 per gallon. Now that fuel has hit the current price of 3.90, I say no to ADM, because their rates either have not come up or not come up very much to offset the jump in fuel price. Its actually cheaper sometimes to dead head home (for example) than it is to haul a load of soybeans 127 miles for .20 cents per bushel. Even though its on the way home! Companies should consider this, loading time and unloading time, drive time, miles to next destination to obtain a load, etc...etc...multiplied by cheap rates will get these companies broke-QUICK!!! In the mean time, pulling everybody else down because of the cheap rates. Good luck and happy travels to all. Only the strong will survive! tell me what you fellows think about this. load from keyes oklahoma to hereford texas, hauling milo 160 miles one way pays .45 a bushel. load from farnsworth texas to hereford texas hauling milo 155 miles one way pays .38. 5 mile diffrence dont understand?
