Rates getting cheaper
Today I called on some loads out of an area we have load to constantly and was told the rate. The rate came to about 1.25/mile. When I asked why someone would take loads at that rate I was told that the shipper said that he could get them moved for that rate and if the broker did not take them he would move them on another broker. Well my reaction to that was to say that before I would take loads at a losing price I would bounce home and leave the shipper with his loads. If every broker as well as every carrier stood their ground and not haul these DIRT cheap loads, the rates would come up. I was also told that the rates will probably come up in the spreing. Well DUH! When you have in season demand the price always goes up! There is one part to this equation that shippers don't think about and that is we carriers that get fair rates from companies all year round will haul their product in season for a fair price then too.
To all of the new brokers and even the old brokers being given ultimatums, I say hold your ground and you will see more good things come your way later.
