Weather it be double brokering, or the shipper wanting multiple bids (seen both) that's just how it goes. I used to see it a lot in freight I didn't see it in grain until I had a company dispatching me and saw blake aria transfer on a rate con. I immediately called and asked what the hell was going on they didn't have an answer for me. 1 week later they were no longer dispatching that truck. I'm all for competition in trucking, as well as competition in brokering but this isn't u ship we don't bid down to get freight. It should be earned via service imo. You want the cheapest price you'll get the cheapest service. \n \n For instance I had a company today I set up with in oct. Tell me they were unable to pay me as we were listed as inactive they needed a contract and insurance. I forwarded the email from Oct and the cert from oct. (Keep in mind they call about once a month wanting stuff hauled) and they're not going to pay me 1400 from 2 weeks ago because insurance wasn't right and I sent them the cert on monday even called the lady and told her \"if there is a problem call me I have to leave the office and won't have access to email). Today they tell me it's still not right and they're not paying till its right. \n \n THEN WHY IN THE FLYING YOU KNOW WHAT WAS I ALLOWED TO HAUL THE LOAD IN THE FIRST PLACE AND WHY IN A MATTER OF 5 MONTHS HAS NOBODY SAID ANYTHING?!?!?! BETTER QUESTION WHY I THE HELL WERE THEY CALLING WANTING ME TO HAUL LOADS FOR THE PAST 5 MONTHS??????\n \n I've had this happen once before with another company (seems it's always HUGE companies with MULTIPLE offices who can pay $100/TON on a 2 mule haul. They with held $3400 for almost a month and once again I sent everything thed called me a few times to haul and I'd declined then 2 weeks later we ended up hauling for them. And not getting paid.\n \n Now what that long rant leads to is both of these carriers were unwilling to negotiate on a rate, and I'd sent the truck because there was nothing else in the area and some money is better than eating the cost of dead heading any farther. Cheap rate cheap service. Yet I've got an evaluator that pays me on time every time, and they pay very well, they had a load of fertalizer I was thinking of taking but didn't have the insurance before even talking about a rate it was nope we can't do it you don't have the proper coverage. I asked about the rate to see if it was worth a call to see how much the coverage would cost. And we'll just say I was a little upset when my insurance company didn't offer it. The rate AFTER a 100 mile bounce was over $5.00/mile. $19.75/ton columbus ne to Washington ks. I used to drag a pot around full time used to make pretty good money doing it as well. Last I'd heard the rates had dropped off substantially everywhere around my are. When I sat the lost pot down after they took their 15% I was still at over 1.90/miles to the truck. I talked to a friend a couple weeks ago at the place I started he said they'd been cut back to 3.80 or 3.90/mile loaded+prorate, for sale barn cattle, and backgrounders had taken a pretty big hit but he handn't hauled any in a while so he didn't know what the rate was. When I quit working there we had at least 50% d/h miles so figure right off the bat you're at 1.95/mile and he's taking 20% so you're down to about 1.60/mile or so. I called today on a load of Urea going to NM out of Texas the first time I saw it posted. We talked a bit and after I declined the rate, I gave him a bid( since it was the first time he had dealt with this shipper). I just saw it posted again by another company so I called them.
