Have seen to much damage done. I have recaps on my steel belly dump, and had a blow out today. It even bent metal on that. I don't think it is worth the risk for the money that you save, you could end up spending more fixing blown out lites and other parts on your hopper. I use continental tires on my spread. They have a cap specially designed for spreads. I was afraid of them myself until a friend of mine told me about them. He runs them on his cattle pots and have had really good luck with them. I also run a little higher pressure than recommended to reduce sidewall flexing. Blown tires are usually the result of sidewall damage, not caps coming loose. I have used the recaps on a spread cattle trailer with no adverse effects.
