I have a 2014 hopper bottom trailer currently just sitting, have been pondering renting it out. Any words of advice??? Please, no one word Smart A$$ comments needed. I see posts for people looking to rent and looking to rent them out, so just wondering outcomes from those who have rented or rented out a hopper. Thank you.

Be sure you and the renter go over the trailer thoroughly and record any and all damages to the trailer before the renter takes possession of the trailer, pictures are also recommended. Be sure you have in writing who is responsible for repairs and maintenance and also have them add the trailer to their insurance to be covered to the dollar value you deem the trailer to be worth and provide you with the insurance certificate proving so.

Thank You, I appreciate the feed back. Taking pictures is a good idea, as trailer is nearly new with no damage.

The only way you can rent a hopper is to have control of the revenue from it, which is hard to do unless you are the Broker also. You lose control of your trailer, the tires and brakes get wore out and usually end up ith a shreaded tarp and body damage. I have also seen Brokers that own trailers and rent them that have even run into problems with collecting and reposessing their trailer...Out right selling is about the only security you have for your investment..

We do the above with the renter. Pictures are always taken.
Contract includes who is responsible for maintenance and repairs. We also check on status of the upkeep and condition of trailer regularly. We carry all the insurance on it BUT charge it back to the renter weekly with the rental payment. |
